How to: Wear a Cape

6 Dec

After my lovely night with French Connection I fell absolutely in LOVE with capes. The look is an adorable twist on winter fashion and new throwback to the style scene.

1. If you want to keep the elegance factor to the cape, pair it with an ultra girly mini, tights, and the highest of heels. Above I am wearing French Connection’s Penny Party dress. I paired the flirty ruffles with French Connection’s 5″ Mary Janes and FC’s  Crusader Cape. Throw on a shimmery scarf and a silver bow clutch, and you have the most feminine of outfits!

2. If you want to dress down your cape, pair it with skinnies, either denim or black and a basic long sleeve shirt. Most capes have open arms so you want to stay warm through the chilly months, and a tee, like LNA or The Row, is your best bet.

3. To go all out with your look, take your cape to the next level with flared jeans a la Rachel Zoe. Elizabeth and James’ Stevie Jean, above from Revolve Clothing, is the perfect 70’s style pant to pair with a printed l/s tee, and a floppy black hat such as this cheap & chic one from F21.

I am loving the cape for Fall/Winter 2010, are you?!

Disclaimer: French Connection cape and Mary Janes were purchased in part through a gifted discount.

Tonight I attended a fashion-filled night at the Club Monaco flagship store to celebrate their new e-commerce launch with my favorite online retailer, Shopbop! The collection was hand selected by Shopbop’s fashion director, Kate Ciepluch and she is ah-mazing! Now to be honest, if I had the wallet I’d buy 90% of what was in store tonight but the items that will be featured on Shopbop starting tomorrow are truly the crème de la crème of the collection.

I will be posting photos from the event including a gorgeous leopard coat, gray faux fur vest, a to-die-for shearling moto jacket and much, much more! In the past I have a bought a few pieces here and there from Club Monaco but never have I seen a collection this luxe and chic for winter in this price range. For now, you’ll just have to enjoy my snapshot of the night of what I wore to this fabulous event!

Dress: F21, Purse: Louis Vuitton, Wedges: Jeffrey Campbell, Necklace: Sydney Evans, Tights: Hue, Jewelry detailed below…

You can see my new JC Roks Wedges are totally already getting a beating as I wear them LITERALLY 24/7! My LV Neverfull which was my 21st birthday present and has amazing coloring on the handles but due to a little too many items inside, the top looks bent out of shape, eep! As for my jewelry: Vintage Versace black and gold medusa bracelet (obsessed & courtesy of my momma’s closet), H&M Gold Bangles, Vintage Gruen watch (also my mom’s now mine), and a gorgeous, gold Free People ring. You can’t see my earrings but they’re beautiful gold and opal heart earrings my Dad brought me from Italy when I was only 8 years old. I still love them!

Bundle Up This Winter with Zara.

11 Oct

Zara’s new look book features the coziest of styles to stay chic but keep warm all winter.

First of all these boots are ah-dorable. Flap down lace up boots are currently on my love list like here and given that these are Zara they’re more affordable than the Alexander Wang Freja’s. I am loving the double-toned looks pairing gray tights with a gray sweater. Gray and black is my go-to color combo during the winter and these yummy knits are perfection. I love the knit cap with the red lips and will absolutely be rocking this look to glam up a snowy cold day.

This look instantly grabbed my attention for it’s unique pairing of textures. A loose gray knit dresses down the leather, while the pleats in the skirt gives a girlier aspect to an edgy item. I am absolutely loving leather for fall, whether a jacket, loose shorts, or skirts it’s a great addition to any wardrobe. Leather can be glam with red lips, dressed down with knits, or girlie with a loose chiffon top in a pretty pink. All will gladly be accepted into my closet.

The vest on the left is cascading beauty at it’s finest. The ruffles resemble Valentino in my mind and the cigarette skinnies and tight tee let the vest do all the talking. When wearing such loose items, like this vest, keep the rest of the outfit fitted creates the slimmest of looks. The dress on the right is both elegant and comfortable. The silhouette is sleek and slimming and the length is perfect for taller girls. If you’re on the shorter side like I am, this is also a great shape but tailoring the dress to slightly above the knee will length your legs. Pairing with pumps is always essential with a longer skirt.

I will absolutely be making a visit or two to Zara this winter to pick up a few of these looks.

Snapshot: Saturday Night Out.

27 Sep

I love New York City because there is always something to do. If one plan gets cancelled you immediately have ten other options. Yesterday my friends and I had a fun filled day of lunch at Nate Appelman’s Pulino’s, a pitcher of Sangria at the Frying Pan (a boat bar docked on the River), and a night out in the LES. I wasn’t planning an outfit post but when we walked past this fantastic graffiti wall I couldn’t help but pass my camera off for a quick snap!

Random NYC Boutique Dress, Rebecca Minkoff MAC Clutch Bag (c/o Jack a MAC), Jeffrey Campbell Roks Bootie, Vintage Gold Leaf Earrings (see here)  Bracelets detailed below.

3 Gold H&M Bangles, NY Street Vendor Brown Leather Studded Wrap Bracelet, Gold and Opal Vintage Watch (from my mom). Coty Nail Polish (sample gifted–color unknown).

Lately I’ve been wearing this three bracelet combination which instantly adds an edgier effect to any outfit. I love wearing old watches as bracelets with the face down. Almost all my old watches aren’t functioning but thanks to my cell, I never really look at the time on the watch anyways! Luckily (and to my wallet- unluckily) I work in SoHo and jewelry street vendors are absolutely everywhere so I find myself picking up a piece or two every once in awhile on my lunch break. Cheap, chic and totally accessible. I’m trying to make the most out of rooftops and nights out before the harsh New York winter comes and I’ll be stuck with that damn puff coat day after day. But for now, a light jacket or booties will do and I am loving it!

Live Blog: MTV Video Music Awards 2010

12 Sep

I will be live blogging this years award show red carpet so keep coming back to be entertained by the chic, the classy, and the absolute crazy…

8:00 pm Guests have been arriving on this years MTV Video Music Awards white carpet and already we have a stunner…

8:03 pm Lady Gaga arrives wearing a piece from Alexander McQueen’s last collection.

Alexander McQueen is a god among fashionistas and Gaga is one who can rock this look without a doubt. The train, headdress and hair is actual art on this white carpet.

8:09 pm Hayley Williams from Paramore is up and her hair is pink, red, orange and banged (and apparently cornrowed!). Hm… I love her voice so I don’t care and her dress is adorableeee on her.

Here’s a pic of her earlier in rehearsal.

8:14pm Katy Perry feels like an ice skater, has ridiculously cute hair highlights of pink and blue with what I think is a fun frock of sheer lace top and white ruffled tiered skirt. She also has fiance- Russel Brand on her nails!

8:18 pm Snooki absolutely looking glam with her bangs!!! She tweeted this pic and I am loving it on her. So much chicer than the massive poof and red highlights. PS- her dress is HORRIBLE!

8:22 pm Just saw Coco Rocha’s glam gown… wouldn’t really choose a black gown for the MTV VMAS but Coco can do no wrong and she definitely has a higher fashion rep than 99% of this crowd so it’s understandable she would go big.

8:23 pm Not quite sure why but 30 seconds to Mars just came a la the circus, clowns, feathers, chicken suits, bikes, trikes, MESS. That white carpet is officially dunzo. I miss Jordan Catalano.

8:25 pm Just catching up on pre-show entrances. Lo and Stephanie Pratt from The Hills: Not loving Lo’s dress, basic silhouette, dull color, messed up Snooki pouf, with too meh heels for the look. As for Stephanie, I am LOVING the boho chic look. She has been a favorite for me on the MTV scene like the neon look last awards show. Her hair is gorgeous, make up is fresh and is looking almost Kate Hudson-worthy. Congrats girl.

8:28 pm Justin Beiber and Usher are being interviewed. Is Beiber wearing leather pants? I’m liking the vest rather than usual blazer look for this 12, 14, 15? year old. Usher always looks dapper, nothing new there.

8:29 pm Once again catching up with earlier looks, Audrina is busting out the bling tonight between the dress, the jewels, the belts and the shoes she is the sparkliest thing out there. For me, love the dress, lose the belts, bangles and would’ve chosen an edgier heel to pair with the sparkle, but she’s cute.

8:32 pm Nicki Minaj is futuristic ridiculousness. I guess she’s the hip-hop Lady Gaga? The Judy Jetson pink oversized top knot mixed with the dark and light purple lamé is just not working for me. I’d rather her go glam and really make a statement with her fabulous presence and voice. But fun 80’s retro music mash-up! Update: Will.I.Am is wearing head to toe leather (?) plastic hair, pink accents, sunglasses, glitter on his shoes.

8:34 pm Jenna Jameson is sporting a bad high school homecoming outfit.

8:36 pm Deadmaus5 choosing a blue head for the night. Coco Rocha asked “have you ever been a live mouse?” Cute.

8:44 pm Ashley Greene is fast becoming a style icon for me, love her hair and simple but glam make up. I want to see a full pan of her dress! But top looks adorable. It’s Giambattista Valli and GORGE.

8:50 pm Emma Stone is playing it safe in a Pucci leather mini with Neil Lane jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti. Guilty pleasure her new movie Easy A!

8:52 Ke$ha is LITERALLY wearing a trash bag! She said she got them at Home Depot and then styled it. She has a super long braid with leather tied through, fur and feather color and a huge cross earring. Disaster, per usual. But at least she’s consistent.

OK the show has officially started so I will wait and see if there is an amazing outfit that was not shown on the white carpet… my guess is no. Besides Gaga’s … wait…

9:03 pm Rihanna with AMAZING flaming red hair and a beautiful tutu is performing with Eminem. And combat boots with a fabulous jeweled headband.

… ok Gaga’s outfit changes! So far:

1. Stephanie Pratt   2. Ashley Greene   3. Katy Perry and of course will wait for Gaga.

Fiercest Fashion: MTV Movie Awards.

6 Jun

Oddly enough, the person I would’ve least likely guessed to be my top pick of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, got the A+ for fun, fierce fashion in my book…

space

Stephanie Pratt in Leila Shams.

The plastic surger-ied 2.0 version of Stephanie scares me a little but when I think of the MTV Movie Awards I think short mini frocks that garner attention. No need to go for the “classy” look here. MTV Awards are ridiculous and the fashion should be fun to celebrate them. As much as I love Scarlett Johansson’s green lace knee length dress, it just seemed too formal for the occasion. Now, Stephanie is young at 22 and really celebrated the LA Summertime look. She has three major Summer Trends in her look but the coincide very well: lace, one-shoulder, and neon. I would honestly wear this dress to my next Saturday night event in a heartbeat. Stephanie’s subtle California-cool makeup of mostly bronzer and a light pink lip let her “natural” beauty come through. The fact that she kept her accessories minimal (love the ring, could’ve done without the bracelet even) in addition to a classic pair of black pumps really put all the emphasis on that eye-popping dress.

space

You might call it a miss but I L-O-V-E Stephanie’s bright and daring look. MTV Awards are not the Oscar’s, this red carpet is made for fun not formal looks! A+ Stephanie!

Keep checking back to see my Fashion Fugliest: Who will it be? Lindsay Lohan? Christina Aguilera? Hm…

“From small beginnings come great things”- Proverb

12 Nov

Hello everyone,

As my first blog posting for my new site, I thought I’d give you a little introduction to why I started Everyday to Runway!

First of all, the title derives from my favorite band, the 2AM Club’s song “Worry about you” where they say “I used to watch you treat the streets like a runway.” I love this lyric because how many of us get up in the morning and love styling ourselves and then when we’re walking to work we feel that extra kick in our step because we know we look good. It’s fun to have that wind in your hair, strut your stuff moment and that is what this blog is about. Every day we can feel like a model, or movie star, or our own fill-in-the-blank of whoever we want. Each day we are our own blank canvas, and I know I for one fully take advantage of that by choosing each day depending on my mood who I will be. By using inspiration from the runways I love to put together looks that are an emulsion of vintage, basics, and designer. By creating this balance, you avoid the disaster that is wearing an identical outfit to a peer, and the look that you have no style because all you did was throw on a single designer.

John Fairchild said, “Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style.” Never forget to add your own personality to your clothing in order to make it your style. Everyday to Runway will show you how to mix and match as well as give you an insight into my personal style. Ask questions, send pictures, share your style with me.

Check out the song here: 2AM CLUB- Worry about You

Hope you enjoy!
