The Perfect Party Polish

2 Dec

I am a mani/pedi girl. I do not think I’ve seen my bare nail for years. Luckily for me, my candy colored stash of polishes keep me busy every two weeks. Now that the holidays are coming up, I love to add a festive touch to my tips and toes and no one does that better than Deborah Lippman!

Her glitter-featured collections are prime for the tinsel-loving season and will be the perfect addition to that Little Sparkly Dress.

Clockwise: Today Was a Fairytale, Boom Boom Pow, Bad Romance & Across the Universe.

I love that the Deborah Lippmann polishes can capture so many different moods despite being all chunky glitter. I love Bad Romance for a romantic, deep look, while Today Was a Fairytale is so girly and fun. I used to steer clear of glitter polishes due to the hassle of removing it, but a new secret of soaking the nail in remover before using a cotton pad to take it off wipes the color off clean in 1/3 of the time.

The iconic polish: Happy Birthday

Her polishes range from $16-20 and come in everything from redish orange Supermodel, a polish created with Dree Hemingway, to the cement-ish color of Waking Up in Vegas that Gaga wore on the cover of September’s Vanity Fair. If you’re more into the classics, go for Believe- a goldish, beige created with Cher, or Hit Me With Your Best Shot, a shocking gun metal collaborated with Pat Benatar. Or cult faves created for Rodarte- Marquee Moon, or Purple Rain, the lilac featured at Zac Posen.  All can been seen on her site here!

This Holiday season, there’s nothing more perfect than treating yourself to a manicure that will sparkle all season long.

Get This: OPI Burlesque

3 Nov

Glitter, shimmer, and bright colors, there are no three things that make me happier when referring to nail polish! OPI, one of my favorite nail polish companies, teamed up with Sony Pictures to present the Holiday 2010 Burlesque Collection!

The 12 shade collection, consisting of 6 shimmer and 6 glitter polishes fulfills all your girly needs!

Top Row (L to R): Simmer & Shimmer, Show it & Glow it, Sparkle-icious, Let me Entertain You, Ali’s Big Break, Teas-y Does It.

Bottom Row (L to R): Bring on the Bling, Glow Up Already!, Extra-va-vaganza, Rising Star, Take the Stage, The Show Must Go On.

From what I’ve heard, these polishes are perfect for building. The glitters can be used as a top coat to the shimmers, a light spread of glitter, or a full thick coat of glitter on the nails. I say, the more glitter the better, but I like the option of almost 3 different polishes within one.

Out of this collection, I’m most excited for the light seasonal shimmer orange Rising Star, the orange specked Extra-va-vaganza glitter to layer on top of Rising Star, the full power Sparkle-icious which slightly resembles a more refined Deborah Lippman’s Happy Birthday polish! The actual movie Burlesque isn’t really on my radar, but these polishes definitely are!

We Can Do It.

6 Oct

It is officially National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and people are raising awareness in all kinds of ways. My personal favorites: the skyscraper next to my apartment lit up pink, the NFL’s armbands, headbands, and cleats and of course, shopping!

I received this email in my inbox recently and couldn’t turn down the opportunity to share this with my readers… Essie, a favorite nail polish brand of mine, has released a new color in support of awareness and research: We Can Do It.

What better excuse for shopping and getting a mani than helping out a great cause and looking cute at the same time! The pale pink is super chic and the color is a timeless manicure favorite. For only $8 you can do good and look good at the same time. Click here to purchase your own bottle!

OPI Says, “Go Goth.”

One of my favorite places to go for everything nail polish related is the site Vampy Varnish. While doing some early Halloween detective work I stumbled upon a new review of hers featuring the new OPI Nail Collection for Halloween 2010. We all know how much I love OPI, and well, nail polish in general, so when I hear that a new collection is coming soon dedicated solely to my second favorite holiday- I was ecstatic!

This mini set includes 4 smaller sized bottles in deep, dark shades that are bound to bring out a spookier spirit. The colors are diverse in the collection which is always something I like to see. I was a little sad to see two reds in their Alice in Wonderland Collection so having four separate shades is appreciated.

Note: All photos are from Vampy Varnish.

SANGUINE: This deep shimmered red is perfect on toes all fall long. I’d love this nail for the Holidays to bring some subtle cheer without breaking into the fire engine red bottle. The color still pops despite the shine and shimmer and will be a perfect red for this season.

UNRIPENED: This black shade is disguised into a deep blue by the abundance of flecks of green-blue glitter. I would rock this color all winter long on my nails. I love that the intense glitter adds and edgy glam to the basic black.

NEVERMORE: My favorite of the collection is this royal purple full-glittered polish. The blue shimmer gives it a multi-dimensional tone that makes it “Wicked Witch of the West” perfection.

OBSCURITY: A satin matte black that is definitely dare-to-wear. I am not a fan of matte polishes personally because it me, it takes out the girlie shine aspect that I most enjoy. But if you aren’t opposed to matte, this is one serious polish. I like that Obscurity still has a subtle sheen to it that is unique to a matte so this might be one I’d try.

OPI’s Collections are always a bit hit and I don’t doubt this will be any exclusion. I’m a fan of mini-bottles because as an aficionado of polishes I have far too many to count so having more of less is a win-win in my book! What do you think? Would you rock this polishes come the ghoulish night?
