Designer Profile: Maya Brenner

1 Sep

When watching Katy Perry’s latest video “Teenage Dream” for the umpteenth time the other day I came across an eye-catching image in the sexy surf video: a California-shaped necklace! As a San Francisco girl myself, I was overjoyed with the thought of having an accessory that could express my Cali pride all by itself!

I was quick to find details of the Cali-chic chain and shocked to see the designer shared my last name! After some digging, no, we’re not related, but I am still proud to share a state with the dazzling designer. Maya Brenner, a native Californian, has an impressive accessory resume including winning the Rising Star award from Fashion International Group a few years back, as well as penning a jewelry DIY book “Beaded Jewelry: Create your own Style.” Needless to say, with the surname and hometown commonality, it did not take much for me to be a fan!

Turns out Maya has more than a few fans. Katy Perry, Eva Longoria, Jessica Simpson, the list goes on and on of celebs rocking the hometown pride via their jewels. Maya Brenner’s designs will satisfy any state’s pride as well as charms, zodiac signs and letters. It takes a chic-eye to create accessories that are both kitschy (horoscopes) but also classy.

For me the best part of Maya’s designs is that there are different options for different budgets. Each state comes in five options: Sterling Silver ($210), Sterling Silver with a Diamond ($260), 14k Gold ($250), 14k Gold with a Diamond ($300), or my personal pick, the 14k Pave Diamond in Yellow or White Gold ($1040). No matter what the necklace is fun and flirty and the perfect accessory for a proud California girl transported temporarily to New York, like me!

What do you think? Would you rep your state as an accessory?!

Ooh that’s cute! As long as you had a distinguishable state (like California) it’s perfect, otherwise you could have a square, hah XO
