Karl’s Couture.

29 Jan

I am so head over heels for the makeup looks from the recent Chanel Couture show. According to Peter Phillips, the global creative director of Chanel makeup, “Karl gave me three key words: Neon Baroque, Chemical Pastels and Liquid Silver.” And it was definitely a hit.

The lip color for me is the wow factor that is “must-have” worthy. The lip color is from their new summer 2010 rouge allure lipstick line and this color is Genial, and well I think it is Genius. Phillips said, “this shade perfectly matched the Technicolor and Neon Baroque spirit Karl wanted for the makeup at this show.” With it’s beautiful mix of a coral-y pink with a hint of neon in it that seems saccharine sweet without being kindergarten chic. Playful is great, looking like you raided your mother’s beauty drawer does not. Shy away from colors with too much shimmer, or shine (and ANYTHING with glitter) and go towards more matte colors for a more sophisticated look. Matte brings an edge to a sweet color like Genial, but make sure you’ve exfoliated your lips (dry toothbrush, chapstick style) or else dry lips will be extra apparent when applying matte formulas.

In order to make the lips the stand out, stick to clean skin with a subtle cheek in a complimenting coral color. Pair the pink lip with sexy silver eyes that are light enough to let the lips shine but also add a great dimension to the face. Silver looks great on most skin tones too, just remember to blend the silver (or gray) from light on the lids to deeper in the crease with a slight highlighter under the brow bone, so your look is more magical than moon man. If you want to go for the full Chanel look (and I suggest you do) try a silver polish, two coats and you’re good to go for a Karl-approved look.

Like I mentioned in my previous Chanel lipstick post, I’ll be heading to my nearest Chanel counter this May for the new lipstick collection, but for now I’ll be skipping the gray hair streaks, even if Kate Moss didn’t.

What do you think about Karl’s Couture look?

Ah, yes. Love that you likened to her rather than Gaga! In my opinion everyone is too hyped on relating anything innovative to Gaga when others are innovative as well. Plus, I’m dying of jealousy over Daphne’s version of wearing the McQueen armadillos! (Though, in this case, I’d wear the Bad Romance sequins over the nude leather). Haha
